This is the only event of its type in Texas so please take advantage of coming out and join in the fun of learning gold prospecting.
The Llano Gold and Treasure Fest is May 2 from 9-4. It is free to the public and is outside. It will be at the Llano Visitor Center and Chamber of Commerce on the north side of the river. This is where if you and your family if you would like to look for gold and semi-precious stone in the river, can walk to the river from the event, can get your permit to do so, for free. There will be food vendors on site. We are working on getting vendors that follow the theme of gold and other precious minerals, gems and jewelry, preferably hand made, rocks of all types, metal detectors and detecting and any equipment that goes along with all those topics. We have groups that will be bringing prospecting equipment for a show and tell for people just getting started in gpld prospecting. A display of most of the semi-precious stones that can be found in the Llano river and tributaries. We will have a free in our newly renovated 1950s passenger car made into an event center with audio equipment, including big screen tvs, to show a video on gold panning and other parts of prospecting that people can buy copies on USB thumb drives. We will have three panning tubs set up for people that want to pan their own dirt with knowledgeable people helping them through it. We are working on getting equipment and a dealer(s) for prospecting equipment for people to buy and there will be hand equipment to buy there and metal detectors for people to buy from experts in the field. The Round Rock Gold Prospectors of America club will be there with some very informed people to answer questions. Tom Ashworth along with the Highland Lakes Metal Detecting Club will be there and he is very skilled in Gold prospecting and metal detecting. And, last in this post but not least. W C Jameson, author, treasure hunter, tv personality, and Treasure Hunter Hall of Fame inductee, will be there with his books to sign ans sell and to talk with. Along with the Llano River Rail Road Museum and Llano mining exhibit displays. Our mining exhibit is one of only two in the state of Texas and is unique that 90% of our exhibits come form old mines in the Llano county and some from the Texas Hill country.
